Ongoing Mentoring and Development for Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center

• Dynamic Forms/Clinical Note Generation System

  SageSmith conceived and created a tool that enables clinical support staff to design specific physician encounter-based forms, specify note-rendering rules to generate professional quality clinical documentation, and define charge recognition conditions. The result allows physician to enter a minimum of information to receive the maximum in documentation and billing support. The Dynamic Forms System has an extensible logic component that enables designers to create dynamic behavior on specified events and has access to information in Dartmouth's Clinical Information System.

  Currently, this tool is being used to support many of Dartmouth's physician-performed procedures, Nursing assessments and Radiology Requisitions.

• Inpatient Charge Capture

  SageSmith worked in conjunction with Dartmouth Hitchcock's Clinical Information Systems team to build an Inpatient Charge Capture (ICC) system. ICC is seamlessly imbedded into Dartmouth's Clinical Information workflow so that the charge recognition process is invoked at the proper time with appropriate clinically-relevant defaults. The ICC system was the catalyst, together with a compliance program, that lead to an increase in billings of over 40% in its first year alone.

Vital Sign Entry Solution for Allscripts' Touchworks EHR, Version 11

As the leading provider of clinical software, connectivity and information solutions, Allscripts refused to stand pat in a rapidly-evolving healthcare industry. Choosing instead to undertake the largest development effort in the company's history, Allscripts called upon the clinical systems expertise of SageSmith to provide crucial consulting services. SageSmith joined the clinical Orders Module team to develop a complex vital signs capture solution.

The design for the new version of Touchworks EHR called for a "vital signs" capture solution flexible enough to handle any clinical specialty, and robust enough to interface with an external vitals machine. From highly- specialized fields such as oncology and ophthalmology to general practitioners, what comprises "vital signs" differs vastly across the many disciplines in the healthcare industry. SageSmith was able to deliver a highly customizable vitals management solution that interfaces with the Welch Allyn Spot Vitals Machine to improve accuracy and reduce entry time.
